Apropos of Nothing: NFL Edition
I am back from Cancun, where I got my “George Hamilton on” (Yes, I know who George Hamilton is). However, I have a lot of things that I want to get off my chest. It’s every hack columnist’s favorite type of piece to write: The Apropos of Nothing! Mike Smith absolutely deserved to be AP Coach of the Year. The Falcons, though they finished with a better 2007 record than the Dolphins, were the more difficult project to undertake. Not only did their roster seemingly lack the talent to compete, but the most popular jersey sold was a player’s who’s currently in prison, and after their former head coach, Bobby Petrino, bolted last year, they appeared to be hope...

1/5/2009-Cubs grab Bradley
Today the Cubs signed Miltion Bradley for 3 years 30 million. There’s really not much to say, we expected it to happen, it makes the team better. Now if we can get Peavy…. Well, this is probably the shortest article i will ever write. Now i have to go memorize a soliloquy for english. WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW.

Eagles Soar to Next Round!
Sunday two teams with playoff dreams met. One was sent packing, actually left home. The Eagles are now headed for New York to face the Giants after the 26-14 routing of the Vikings. A lot of things were proven in that game, and some jobs might have been settled, and saved. With an outstanding performance from Donovan McNabb, it appeared like everything was back to normal in Philadelphia. McNabb ensured his future with the Eagles, and even though I don’t agree, maybe it is for the best. He seemed to be enjoying himself there, and it made me think maybe it was just a rough time around the nest. Throwing for a cool, calm, and collective 300 yards with a win ...

BC no longer flying under radar
When I wrote that Boston College was on the rise and that the Eagles were once again in position to surpass expectations this season, I did not go as far as to predict a win over unbeaten and top-ranked North Carolina in Chapel Hill in their ACC opener. It was Al Skinner’s club that took it upon themselves to show the nation what they are capable of and announce that they need to be taken seriously. In college basketball, it is not uncommon to see top-ranked teams lose to unranked opponents, home or away. However, this is not any old number one team. This is a Carolina team, led by a fourth-year senior who already has a shelf full of player of the year award...

Drive For 25: Do The Habs Have What It Takes?
Recently watching some of the Montreal Canadiens games over the holidays had me thinking – is this really the year? The Habs are a highly touted team to go deep in the playoffs and make some noise. Never since the 1993 Habs has their been so much of a buzz about a team in Montreal. But is it that real? I suppose so. The expectations and the comparisons to teams of the past are kind of getting old now. I’d probably lose it if someone says one more time that Carey Price is the next Patrick Roy. Let’s set the record straight – Roy was Roy, Price is Price. But with some inconsistencies, are they that much different? Can Jaroslav Ha...

US roster for Sweden friendly
U.S. national team coach Bob Bradley has called in a squad made up largely of Major League Soccer players for a training camp to prepare for a Jan. 24 friendly against Sweden at The Home Depot Center. The group, which features 20 MLS players, will assemble in Carson, Calif. on Jan. 4. “This is the beginning of a big year for the national team, and it is important that we get started off heading in the right direction,” Bradley said in a statement. “This is another great opportunity to reinforce the principles of how this team operates both on and off the field, as well as getting players ready for the match against Sweden and the first Worl...

Great Weekend for Michigan Sports
#23 Michigan 74 Illinois 64 Let’s start with the huge 74-64 win for #23 (for a few more hours until the new poll comes out) Michigan (11-3, 1-1) over Illinois (13-2, 1-1) on Sunday. It was a game that Laval Lucas-Perry said Michigan “needed to win” and they did just that to get to .500 in Big Ten Conference play. If Michigan wants to go dancing, they need to beat tough teams like the Illini on their home court. Illinois came in receiving votes in the polls and with a RPI of #18. With the way they’ve looked all season, I’d expect them to be around the top 25 at the end of the year. Michigan trailed by one at the half but battled ...
